Quercus phellos is a native oak occurring throughout the southeast. They are usually found in bottomland forests and swamps, to upland, recently-disturbed slopes and are uncommon in the mountains. They grow in a wide range of conditions, but do not enjoy being either too dry or too wet. Quercus phellos works well as a street tree, or for restoration projects. As with all oaks, their acorns are a valuable food source for wildlife. Oak trees are also important host plants to many butterfly and moth species, supporting over 500 species of Lepidoptera!
