Through photographs and stories of nocturnal adventures from around North Carolina, Lior will explain the basic yet fascinating biology of moths and how to support their life cycles within your own backyard. You'll gain a newfound appreciation for the quiet yet powerful world that comes to life when the stars come out. Whether you're an insect enthusiast or simply curious about the mysteries of the night, this presentation will inspire awe and wonder for the magical creatures that share our world after dark.
Weather permitting, a moth and insect collecting sheets and lights will be set up to demonstrate how moths and other insects can be easily drawn out of hiding to be observed and photographed.
Bio Statement
Lior conducts the Education and Community Outreach aspects of Backyard Butterflies. They have been surveying moths since 2019, which eventually grew into the North Carolina Under-reported County Mothing Project, founded in 2022. Lior has raised multiple species of moth caterpillars, visited over a dozen under-reported counties in NC, and has made over 6,000 observations representing almost 1,110 species of moths. Lior holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Arts degree in Applied Behavioral Science.
