Clyde Sorenson is an Alumni Association Distinguished Professor of Entomology at North Carolina State University. He received his B.S. in Wildlife Biology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Entomology, all from NCSU. After 4-year stints on the faculties of the University of Nevada-Reno and the University of Missouri-Columbia, he returned to NCSU in 1996. He teaches a total of 6 courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research interests include agricultural pest management and conservation biology issues primarily associated with longleaf pine ecosystems. He has also been extremely interested in the firefly fauna of North Carolina for about 10 years. Dr. Sorenson lives with his wife Leeann, two chocolate labs, three cats, three ducks, and a 40-year-old blue-fronted Amazon parrot named Floyd in Clayton, NC.
Dr. Sorenson's talk will focus on the diversity of North Carolina's fireflies (and other glowing insects) and delve into their natural history and conservation. He'll also talk about a citizen science project you might be able to help with!
The program begins at 7:00 PM but come a little early and socialize with us. All of our programs are free and open to all!
