Tree Planting at the Audubon Natural Area (ANA)

Come and help us plant native tree seedlings at the ANA!  We’ll be planting White Oak trees, documented to support 534 Lepidoptera species (Doug Tallamy), and Hackberry, “. . . the host plant for 5 or 6 species of butterflies (Hackberry Emperor, Tawny Emperor, American Snout, Mourning Cloak, and sometimes Question Mark and Comma) . . . “ (Dennis Burnette).  White Oak acorns are valuable food for a variety of birds and wildlife, and Hackberry berries are as well (including for Cedar Waxwings and Orioles).

When: This event takes place on Sunday,  February 26 at noon.  Bring gardening tools if you can; soil and water will be on site.

To get to the ANA: The ANA is located along Tankersley Drive, which runs behind Moses Cone Hospital from North Church Street to North Elm Street. You can park in the hospital parking lot, or on the gravel area at the ANA entrance sign by driving over the curb.

Weather considerations: In the event of inclement weather, we will cancel and reschedule. Please contact Jim Eldrett, ANA Steward, at:  Eldrett.jim@gmail.com with any questions.
