Sunday Afternoon Nature Walk

SUNDAY AFTERNOON NATURE WALK

A&Y Railroad Corridor

February 12th, 2:00 pm

Are you ready for some winter fun? Our February walk will be different than others we have taken. We won't be on a trail in a park or nature preserve, but rather on a future trail, namely the Downtown Greenway in Greensboro. At present the trail is just the the former Atlantic and Yadkin Railroad's bed of gravel, the railbed. So the walk is level and mud-free. The total walk will be less than a mile.

We'll notice the winter vegetation, the lovely stream that parallels the trail, and talk a little about railroad history. Our winter visitors are here, as well as our resident birds, so bring your binoculars. A real treat will be the sculpture project that is installed beside the trail. Not your classic nature walk to be sure, but hopefully an interesting and informative one.

Two ways to get to the walk site:

A carpool will leave from Friendly Center in the Whole Foods parking lot, up close to Friendly Ave., at 1:45 pm sharp. Please gather there at 1:30 pm.

Alternatively, you can drive to the trail. The nearest address is 504 Guilford Ave., 27401. Guilford is one block north of Friendly Ave.There is plenty of street and lot parking there. Arrive by 2:00 pm. We'll be done by 4:00 pm.

The walk is in February, so we'll watch the forecast. If on Friday there is a high probability of rain or snow we'll cancel. If it is just cloudy, we'll walk. Either way, use common sense. If in doubt contact the walk coordinator, Jack Jezorek (336-885-0669-h) (336-509-1491-c)

So plan to come out and do some winter “railroading” with us.
